What Happens On The Day Of Driving Theory Test
The Multiple Choice Test
You can have 15-minute practice session to famlarise yourself with the system and format of the theory test before you start the actual multiple choice test.
There are total of 50 questions in the multiple choice test. You will have 57 minutes to complete this part of the test. Out of total 50 you need to get atleast 43 correct answers to pass your theory test. Each question will have 4 options and you need to chose correct option using mouse. For some questions you’ll need to select more than one answer – there’ll be a message if you don’t select enough answers. There are also case study questions: these will show you a short ‘story’ and you’ll need to answer five questions about it. One question will be presented on the screen at a time.
You can go back and review/change your answers anytime. If you aren’t sure about any of the questions, you can ‘flag’ them and come back to them later.
The Hazard Perception Test
Once you finished multiple choice part of the theory test, you have a choice to either start hazard perception test immediately or tae a three-minute break. You will also be given an option to watch a short video before you start the test, showing you how the test works.
In actual test there will be a series of videos and you’ll need to click the mouse as soon as you see a developing hazard. A potential hazard can be anything which needs the driver, to take some action such as braking, changing speed or direction etc. The sooner you spot the hazard and click mouse, the more points you’ll score but you can score up to five points for each hazard.
Each video will have one hazard apart from one film which will have two hazards. Out of total 75 marks, you need to score atleast 44 marks to pass your hazard perception part.
If you click the mouse too much or if you click in a pattern, you’ll be given a warning message and you’ll score no points for that film.
You need to score atleast 43 marks in multiple choice and 44 marks hazard perception in same sitting to pass your driving theory test.
After You Book Your Theory Test

Cancelling and Rescheduling The Theory Test
You can change date and time of your theory test though you must give us minimum of five working days’ notice. If you need to cancel your theory test, we will refund you in full as long as you us a minimum of 5 working days’ notice.
Attending Your Theory Test
Arrive atleast 15 minutes before at Chester Theory test Centre as you may be refused to enter in case of late arrival and you will lose your test fee. Arriving without appropriate identity documents will also deemed to refuse entry and loss of test fee.

It’s not allowed to take any personal belongings into the test room. This includes:

In test centre, you will be provided a locker where you need to store all these belongings before heading towards test room. Test centre staff may also check to ensure that you don’t have anything which can be used for cheating. You are allowed to take test, if you don’t permit them to check.
