In most cases, you need to pass driving theory test before you can take the practical driving test. But you don’t need to take driving theory test if you are upgrading:

• Your car licence. For example, from automatic to manual or to tow a trailer
• You hold a motorcycle licence from past 2 years and upgrading from category A1 (small motorcycle) to category A2 (medium motorcycle)
• Bus licence or lorry, for example, C1 to C
